The visit to El Paso in July was good - the summer rains had arrived so temps were about 5-10 degrees cooler than Phoenix - what wasn’t to like? My sister very kindly took us everywhere we needed to go for boat-supply-procurement and other errands. GB and I had lots of laughs with the family, and I’d gotten a new digital camera with a couple of fancy lenses, with which I practiced on the yard art and flowers in Ma’s and my sister’s gardens. Because before I photograph anything in motion, I practice on still life, and then plants, and gradually work my way up to live critters. Like so: Well, OK - a couple of cats & a guy reading on a sofa aren't much more animate than yard art or plants, but a photographer has to make the most of the subjects she has at hand. In other news, Ma insisted that she treat the whole family to a nice dinner out, and out of consideration for GB and I just having flown up from Mexico, everyone thought it best to not go right away to any of the nice Mexican restaurants El Paso has. We saved the Mexican food (and the Tex-Mex, and the Thai, and the BQ) for other days. Instead, we went Italian at the very nice Trattoria Bella Sera out there on El Paso‘s east side. I won’t spoil for you the fun of going there, other than to say they make all their food - even their pizzas - the good old Italian way. Good wine, too, so check them the heck out. m
