The fleet anchored at Agua Verde awoke on December 10, 2016, to a forecast of good weather for the next three days. Several sailboats - including The Fox and Kia Ora - took the opportunity to move along. We heard on the VHF radio that at least three of the other departing fleet were aiming for the anchorage at Puerto Los Gatos. It's certainly a lovely place, but three sailboats in there would tend to make things a bit crowded, especially if other boats were already anchored there. Which the VHF soon informed us there were.
While Kia Ora headed for the destination of their choice, The Fox made for one of our absolute favorite anchorages in all of the Sea of Cortez: the scenic Cazadero anchorage on the western shore of Isla San Jose up near the northern third of the island. Relatively few cruisers stop there - perhaps because it's located about 40 miles from Agua Verde and other anchorages are closer - but we've always found Cazadero to have good holding and good shelter from northerly winds. A fish camp lines the shore in front of a magnificent forest of cardon cactus. We always find a good spot to anchor just off the easternmost shelter of the fish camp.
And so it was that The Fox anchored in about 26' of water in our favorite spot. We had the place all to ourselves. The next day involved kayaking up and down the shore, combined with vigorous and productive seashelling. A waxing gibbous moon illuminated the calm night.
And so to bed.
